Kick Confusion to the Curb
Website, Email Marketing, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn…..
WHERE DO YOU EVEN BEGIN?
Well, the first and most important steps are to define your ideal customer and get clear on your message. Armed with that information, you can purposefully target your business marketing and advertising efforts in the right channels instead of it feeling like a total shot in the dark, and you’ll genuinely connect with your ideal customers versus speaking to the masses.
Here’s an example…
Imagine you offer meal planning services. You’ll sell to anyone, of course, but let’s say your ideal customer is a busy working wife and mother in her 30’s. In this case, we’ll say she’s 34 and her name is Veronica. For the sake of keeping this short and sweet, we won’t go into the detailed info about Veronica, we’ll just assume she’s super busy keeping up with her toddlers, her career, and spending quality time with her husband, family, and friends. Veronica uses Facebook and Pinterest and occasionally hops on Instagram.
You might be advertising “meal planning services” on your website, Facebook, and Twitter. Maybe you occasionally catch the attention of 20-something single college kids, Natalie or Greg, over on Twitter, but you’re missing all the Veronica’s that aren’t hanging out there, and maybe even the Veronica’s on Facebook because “meal planning services” just isn’t standing out and speaking the language of busy mom’s like Veronica. Now imagine changing your message to “helping busy mama’s avoid spontaneous combustion by solving the never-ending ‘what’s for dinner’ debate” and advertising that on your website, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. Now that resonates with Veronica and you’re getting your message in front of her. Sure, Natalie or Greg may still be interested in what you offer, but they really aren’t your ideal customers. Veronica is. And by getting the right message in the right places, you’re getting your Veronica’s, the ones who really want and need your services.
