HOW TO CHOOSE FONTS FOR YOUR WEBSITE

Long gone are the days when you had to choose one (or two) of a few web-safe fonts for your website. Incorporating custom fonts is easier than ever, so you’ll definitely want to use your brand fonts to keep things consistent.

Paragraph font

The paragraph font on your website will be used for the bulk of your page text. Because the key here is readability, you’ll want to choose a font that’s as easy as possible to read. This is not the place to get all quirky with showcasing your style…. I’ll cover that below. Our eyes get tired pretty quickly. And when that happens, we skim through things, or worse, stop reading altogether. It’s always best stick to an easy-to-read serif or sans-serif for your main page copy.

Heading font

Heading fonts allow you to showcase your personality and style. So you’re modern and bold? Choose an uppercase sans-serif. Feeling a little fancy? Go with a script font. Or maybe you want a more cozy, handcrafted feel? Select a handwriting font. Just don’t forget that your headings need to be legible, so you don’t want to get too crazy here.

Site Title + Tagline + Graphics

So you’re dying to use that display font? Ok, this is where you’re most likely safe to use it. Your website title, tagline, and also graphics are places where the text is (or should be) large enough that your display font should be legible. Just be sure to check that everything looks ok, or you may end up with some serious font fails 🙈

Here’s a list of the websites I use on pretty frequent basis to find the most perfect fonts for brand + website projects. A quick Google search will also give you a ton of results.

Creative Market – so many lovely fonts + a ton of great photos and graphic elements.

MyFonts – over 130,000 available fonts, and counting.

Adobe Fonts – you do need a Creative Cloud subscription in order to access these fonts.
